AR-15 Upper From Daniel Defense

Daniel Defense has made a big splash in the industry  by manufacturing and building some of the premier AR-15 upper receiver groups, known for their high reliability, excellent fit and finish and attention to detail.  With durable cold hammer forged barrels, Mil-Spec MP tested bolts and topped off with Daniel Defense’s impeccably manufactured rail Systems, these uppers will not disappoint.

Cold Hammer Forged Barrels

As stated previously, Daniel Defense manufactures all of the components for their AR-15 uppers.  This of course, includes the barrels.  Daniel Defense barrels are made through a cold hammer forging process.  During this process, a barrel blank is essentially pressed or hammered onto a negative barrel template or mandrel, thereby forming the lands and grooves of the rifling and chamber onto the barrel blank.  The advantage of forming a barrel through cold hammer forging is that it leads to an extremely consistent result.  Daniel Defense claims that this process will lead to a defect free bore with a very consistent chamber.  This all results in a barrel that you give you the accuracy and reliability that you expect.

Daniel Defense barrels in 5.56x45mm offer a 1:7 barrel twist rate.  This twist rate is optimal for stabilizing heavier grain bullets.  Also several of the barrels have chrome lined bored further increasing service life and making for easier maintenance.

Upper Receivers

The Upper Receivers used for Daniel Defense uppers are laser marked with Daniel Defense insignia, as well at a T-marked top rail section.  These receivers are made from 7075-T6 Aluminum and have a Mil-Spec Type III hard anodized finish.  To increase reliability, these receivers have M4 feed ramps cut into them to increase feeding reliability.

Shot Peened Bolts & MPI Bolt Carriers

All of the Daniel Defense bolt carriers and bolts are magnetic particle inspected. What this means is that the bolt carriers are magnafluxed and inspected for damage.  Magnafluxing can be though of like an X-Ray for metal.  You will be able to detect defects (cracks/voids) within the metal that are not visible on the surface.

The bolts manufactured by Daniel Defense also go through a shot peening process.  This process is a cold working process not too dissimilar from cold hammer forging.  It involves hitting the bolt with a metal media or shot, kind of like sand blasting, but not as abrasive.  This, in turn alters the mechanical properties of the metal by creating a compressive residual layer of stress.  This compressive stress makes the bolt less susceptible to cracking and gives the bolt a longer service life.

Daniel Defense Rails

Daniel Defense first became prominent in the industry due to their manufacturing of the finest AR-15 picatinny railed hand guards.  Every DD upper comes with one of these hand guards.
