Overview of the EOTech Holographic Red Dot Sights

In 1995, EOTech was launched as a subsidiary of the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan.  The intention of this newly formed company was to miniaturize holographic technology that was at the time being used for the Heads-Up Display (HUD) unit of advanced fighter aircraft.  EOTech released it’s first small arms sighting system in 1996, which was the first holographic based weapon sight.  EOTech released a second generation of this sight in 2000. Advantages of the EOTech Holographic Weapon Sight

The first and major advantage of the EOTech HWS is speed.  This speed comes from the large see-through reticle images that provide for quicker eye recognition.  The combination reticle with 65 MOA ring and 1 MOA dot (smallest in the industry) is an extremely well thought out design that allows for both speed and accuracy when needed.  In addition to this, due to the flat glass used and holographic technology, parallax is much more forgiving that is on traditional red dot sights.  The large optical field of view (25-50% large than other red dot sights) is due to the tubeless design, which helps to eliminate blind spots and a constricting view.  This allows for true 2 eyes open shooting and maintains the use of peripheral vision to transition to other threats. 

Due to the parallax free operation, the sight will still be usable with an intact zero , should the window be partially covered with mud, snow, sand or water.

The Holographic sight is also ideal for use with night vision.  EOTech sight can work in tandem with Gen I –Gen III+ intensifier tubes.  In using the holographic sights, there is no halo affect of the reticle on the target. Also, due to the extremely precise, 1MOA aiming reticle, there is minimal target obstruction enhancing the users accuracy potential.  The large viewing window of the EOTech sights also allows for increased FOV when used in tandem with night vision systems.

Other benefits of the EOTech HWS include unlimited eye relief, which allows for use on multiple weapon platforms or user preferences.  Additionally, the EOTech sights are available in both AA and CR123 battery configurations, depending on user preference.  Also, there is no reticle wash out in bright sunlight, desert/artic conditions or white targets. And lastly, the sight does not require the use of tools for changing the battery, mounting or windage and elevation adjustments.

To aide in extended battery life, the EOTech HWS has an auto battery check upon startup and will cause a blinking reticle at 20% or less of battery power remaining.  Also, the sights have a auto shut down option at 8 or 4 hours.

The EOTech holographic weapon sights were made with hard use in mind in that they have an operating temperature of -40 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit.  Also, some models are water submersible to various depths.  The lenses are A/R coated, scratch resistant, and maintenance free.  The internal and external components were chosen for their resistance to corrosion.
