MOE Carbine Stock

Overview of the Magpul MOE Carbine Stock (MAG400/ MAG401)

The Magpul MOE AR-15 stock is essentially the economical version of Magpul’s best selling stock, the CTR.  While their exterior appearance is extremely similar, there are some key differences between the MOE and the CTR.  One of the key differences in the MOE stock, is that it does not host a mount for a QD sling swivel.  The stock does host two sling loops, should you elect to mount your sling in that manner.  However, if you run a sling with Quick Detach buttons, the stock will not be compatible with that sling, although you do have the option to run a QD end plate.  The other major difference between the MOE Carbine stock and the CTR is that the MOE stock does not have Magpul’s friction lock.  The friction lock helps to minimize stock wobble, which some may find more displeasing than others.  While the MOE does have a greater degree of wobble than the CTR, most do not find it obtrusive.

Features of the MOE AR-15 Stock

The MOE stock is a drop in replacement stock that will easily install on the appropriate buffer tube (Mil-Spec MAG400 or Commercial-Spec MAG401).  The stock is made of impact resistant polymer and has a snag-free A-Frame design.  The A-frame design also helps to protect the vulnerable lock release latch from damage.

To make the stock easier to shoot, the MOE comes with a rubber butt pad.  This pad helps to absorb shock impulse and also enhances the grip the stock has on your shoulder, preventing unwanted movement when you are shooting.  In another effort to make this stock easier to shooter, the MOE stock has sloping cheek weld pieces.  This slope makes for a wider, more comfortable area for you to rest your cheek on during firing.

The MOE stock is also compatible with several other optional accessories from Magpul.  Just like the CTR, cheek risers can be mounted to the MOE for non-AR applications, such as AK’s or shotguns.  In addition to the cheek pieces, the MOE stock will also accept the enhanced rubber butt pad for some added cushioning from recoil.

One of the assets of the MOE stock is it’s weight.  The MOE comes in at a trim 0.50 lbs., which will make this stock the perfect choice for a lightweight build.
