Overview of Troy Iron Sights

Troy industries have become synonymous with back-up iron sights (BUIS).  For many years now, they have provided us with the industry leading, precisely manufactured durable and accurate and simply best sights on the market.

Folding Flip-Up Style Sights

Flip Up sights have become essentially universally mounted to most AR-15’s.  This is because they are very useful and can be extremely helpful in certain circumstance.  While most rifles today are equipped with a primary optic that is either a red dot or variable power optic, iron sights refuse to be phased out.  Iron sights simply have too many advantages to be ignored and to be forced into retirement.  Iron sights are an excellent back up to your primary sighting system.  Folding sights obviously have the ability to lay flay against your rail so that they only have a minimal footprint and take up as little space as possible.  By laying flat these sights can stay out of sight and can essentially remain invisible until you need them.  Iron sights are also the perfect back-up to your optical sights because the are unfailingly reliable.   While optical sights can fog up, get smeared with blood, mud, sweat, etc., run out of batteries and so on, iron sights are completely insulated from these issues.

Fixed Sights

Fixed iron sights are yet another option that Troy Industries brings to the table.  These are an excellent option if you plan on using iron sights as your main sighting system.  Since they are fixed, they will always be in place, at the ready for your use.  Also if you use a red dot and prefer a co-witnessed sight picture, iron sights might be a good option for that as well.

Troy offers several options.

Tritium

Tritium night sights are a great choice when choosing sights for a home defense rifle, or if you are involved in low light operations.  Tritium has a long half life, and during that half-life will provide you with a consistent ability to glow in the dark.  This will make it easier to align your sights in the dark, and it can make it easier to find your rifle in the dark.

Differ Front Sight Options

Troy offers several of their front sights with either M4 style protective wings or HK/AK hooded style.  With these two different styles none is not necessarily better than the other they are just simply different.

Rear Aperture

More recently, Troy has released their diamond style rear aperture.  Traditionally, rear apertures have been round.  However rear apertures have been trending to a diamond shape.  Again, this isn’t necessarily something that is better but some people simply prefer it to the traditional circular rear aperture.
