XS Big Dot Sights

XS Sight Systems is an American family business currently run by Jon Pastusek.  The company has a long and prestigious lineage with the XS Sight Systems brand emerging in 2002.

The original concept for the XS V notch type sights came from the lack of sufficient product in the market.  The XS Sights team wanted to bring a product to the market that would be designed and based on how customers would actually use their sights.  With this concept, the design team at XS sights consulted with many individuals in the industry, including Jeff Cooper, Finn Aagard, Clint Smith, James Yeager, Andy Stanford, Paul Gomez, Bill Davison, Ralph Lermayer, Giles and Ed Stock, Louis Awerbuck, Richard Mann, Hans Vang, and various other individuals.  With all of this user input, XS was able to design and manufacture what they feel are the best sights on the market today.

The handgun sights offered by XS Sighs utilize a V notch rear sight with a bigger than traditional dot front sight.  The reasoning for this non-traditional sighting system is that it offers several advantages when compared to the more traditional notch and post handgun sights.  One major advantage of the large, light colored front sight is that it is easier to track in mid to low light level environments.  This is important, as many defensive situations occur when light levels are at a less than desirable brightness.  By offering the operator a large front sight to focus on, this will make front sight acquisition during stress easier, allowing for more accurate fire on target.  The Big Dot XS Sights have received some critique and questions from individuals that are skeptical about the performance of such a big front sight.  The issue brought up most is that some individuals seem to think that because the front sight is so large compared to traditional sights, it might lead to inaccurate shots.  However, when used in practice, the XS sights can afford the user appropriate levels of accuracy, as can be seen in this demonstration video produced by James Yeager.  In addition to this, XS Big Dot Sights for handguns were not meant for bulls eye shooting or for extreme match grade accuracy.  The concept of the product is that it is meant for high-stress, defensive situations.  According to FBI statistics and various individual reports, these defensive shootings most often occur at relatively close distances, where extreme accuracy is not necessarily indicated.  Even with that being so, XS Sights can be used to generate accurate shots as well but are primarily intended to quick, close, high-stress, defensive situations.

XS Sight systems also offer products intended for use by the avid hunter.  These sights utilize a ghost ring aperture with a white stripe front sight. This offers the hunter a sight that is fast to acquire and has been proven effective over the last 15 years.
