Overview of the Bushnell TRS-25 Red Dot Sight

  • The TRS-25 is a small, light and rugged red dot sight. It is intended for use on shotguns, rifles or pistols.  This optic was meticulously engineered by the employees at Bushnell and was then manufactured with Bushnell’s high quality standards.

What are the Advantages of a Red Dot Sight?

  • A red dot sight allows the shooter to have a fast, simple way to aim their firearm.  With a red dot sight, you do not need to worry about lining up your front and rear sight.  All you need to do is simple put the dot on where you intend to hit.  Aiming with both eyes open is much easier with a red dot sight.  Having both eyes open gives you better situational awareness, as you will be better able to see what is happening in your peripheral vision.  Also, another major advantage of red dot scopes is that they are parallax free.  When you shoot a firearm with iron sights, your head must be in the same position every time in order for the sights to line up appropriately.  Red dot sights are arguable the best sighting system for fast passed CQB action.

Who was the TRS-25 made for?

  • There are several Red dot sight on the market that cater to several different groups.  Of course, there are some premium grade optics that are built with meticulous attention to detail and offer near bombproof ruggedness.  However, those sights often cost several hundreds of dollars.  The TRS-25 wasn’t necessarily made for hard, military or law enforcement type use, but more for the average civilian that wants a reliable and relatively durable red dot sight that will get the job done.  The TRS-25 with it’s excellent price point provides a wonderful option for that population. It is compact, light dependable and will do everything you will need it to do.  With its aluminum main body tube and solid click adjustments for elevation and windage, this sight feels very well built.

How do red dot sights work?

  • Your TRS-25 has an objective lens at the forward facing end of the unit.  This lens is spherical in shape with the convex portion facing outward.  If you look closely at your objective lens you will note that it is not perpendicular with the scope tube, it is tilted.  Why is your objective lens tilted? This allows the front lens to reflect light from a battery powered LED light source from inside the scope tube.  This reflected light from the diode is the red dot reticle that you will see when looking through your sight.

What special requirements should you do if you are going to use your TRS-25 in harsh weather?

  • If you are going to use your TRS-25 in hot weather (either moist or dry) there are no special procedures needed to ensure function of the device.
  • If you are going to use your Bushnell TRS Red Dot in extreme cold, there are some situations you should be aware of.  Extreme cold may have a negative affect on battery life and shorten the run time of your red dot.  Additionally, cold weather may make the adjustment knobs more difficult to turn when compared to turning them at normal operating temperatures
  • If you are operating in conditions with salt air, there are not additional procedures required for usage.
  • There are a few considerations that are suggested with using your Bushnell TRS-25 in wet conditions such as in sea spray, water, mud and/or snow.  If you are going to use your Bushnell red dot in wet conditions you will want to ensure that the battery cap and adjustment caps are tightened to prevent moisture from entering these areas.  Take caution to not over tighten these caps, as they only need to be hand tightened to a snug fit.  To protect the external surfaces of the lenses, you will want to use lens covers when you sight is not in use and only remove the covers when it is pertinent to do so.  Also take every opportunity to clean your lenses when debris becomes attached to them.
  • In loose debris or sandy environments, you will want to use lens covers to prevent debris from settling on your lenses.

How should you care for your red dot sight lenses?

  • In the event that your lenses are dirty and requiring clean it is never pertinent to clean the lenses with your finger.  A proper lens paper or cloth should be used if one is available.  In the event that proper lens cleaning material is not available, attempt to move as much dirt away as possible with air by blowing on the lenses or using an alternative air source.  To clean the lenses first breath on the lenses to form moist condensation and then clean the lenses with a soft cloth.
