The Magpul STR stock is a collapsible stock designed as a drop-in replacement for AR-15 carbines with Mil-Spec diameter buffer tubes. This stock is built for hard use and has several features that make it attractive to any shooter.
Genesis of the STR Stock
The Magpul STR is based off of the popular CTR stock from Magpul. The main difference between the STR and the CTR is that the CTR has added storage capabilities, in that it features twin battery storage compartments located on either side of the stock. These battery storage tubes are large enough to house two CR123A lithium or AA batteries in each tube. These storage tubes are water resistant and are sealed by rubber plugs at the rear of the stock. Unlike other stocks with similar storage tubes, Magpul has designed these tubes to be accessible from the rear, this allows the tubes to be accessed when the stock is in the fully collapsed position.
Built to be Ran Hard
Like other Magpul AR-15 stocks, this stock is primarily composed of a durable, impact resistant polymer. This gives the stock the ability to handle hard use, while remaining lightweight and low priced. To ensure a long service life and durability, Magpul has incorporated several key design aspects into this stock. For instance, this stock has a sleek A-frame design. This A-frame design prevents the stock from snagging onto any of your gear. It also acts as a barrier and prevents impact from reaching the lock release lever; thereby avoid potential damage to the critical components. The locking release latch uses a chrome silicone spring. This spring has an extremely long service life and will ensure that you will be able to move your stock when you need to and it will hold the locking latch in place.
Magpul’s Friction Lock
One of the most well received features of this Magpul stock is the friction lock. Unfortunately, many AR-15 adjustable stocks have a district wobble and rattle to them. This is due to a loose fit between the stock and the buffer tube. Magpul has solved this problem with it’s friction lock. The friction lock acts to wedge the stock against the buffer tube, making for a much more rigid mating between the stock and the buffer tube. This greatly diminishes any wobble and rattle between the stock and buffer tube.
For increased traction, this stock also includes a 0.30” rubber butt pad. This pad helps give the stock some traction so that it better stays in place when firing. Additionally, it offers some impact absorption.
The STR stock also has several options for sling integration. The stock also comes with a reversible QD sling swivel cup that can accommodate a swivel up to 1.5”. In addition to this, the STR also has a 1.25” sling loop integrated into the rear/bottom of the stock.
